Red Kite over Moate

    Hi,
I just spotted a Red Kite in the sky near Moate here in the Midlands.
I wouldn't normally be so confident of the species identification, but I had observed Red Kites at length when in Windsor on my holidays this year, and this was the same bird I'm pretty sure. Definitely not a buzzard, no comparison in the shape or behaviour.

Is there any chance that this bird is resident in the area or would he have travelled this far from e.g. Wicklow on his daily rounds?

I'll keep an eye out in the next few days.

    Thanks,
    /M.
