Reckon if you are prepared to spend that amount of money then drop the monitor and get a better all round system - this is assuming you have a PC and don't therefore need the monitor as its probably about circa €100 of the price.

personally, if i was doing it (and i will be soon enough), my preferred choice would be:

    4 wireless/wired pan/tilt foscam's for €200 delivered (if you haggle)
    €50 for a 1tb disk
€130 for a low end Synology NAS

the NAS has a built in high spec web enabled surveillance station to give you almost limitless expandability camera and storage wise which would wipe the floor with that gruupy deal imho.

they are also a great all round NAS device for storage, backup, multimedia and lots more thanks to great app support.

what is the tvl on the foscams?
also have you built one of these systems? any issues?
is the wireless able to survive 4 cameras at 30fps?

I don't think I'd go down the route of wireless cameras, more robust to run cat5 & not vulnerable to wireless signal being jammed.

(I know your question wasn't aimed at me. I must declare, I've no experience of using any of this kit)

    it's 540 TVL apparently (can't confirm 100% tho).

all the reports i've seen say you'll get 8-10m visibility even in total darkness with the IR, the pan movement is 300 degrees & tilt is 120, so you could have it fixed under the eave on the corner of your house and it'll cover the whole way round, so it's not too bad at all for the money and the picture quality is more than acceptable imho, from what i've seen.

i haven't actually put this set-up together myself yet, but i know someone who has 6 of them in his house and doesn't seem to have had any issues that i'm aware of, even with 3 of them being outside (they aren't marketed as waterproof, but he has two under his eaves and one out on a gate post right in the open and they all seem to be working fine even in the rain.

the built in speaker for the 2 way audio isn't all that loud from what i saw of his, but there was a party going on at the time so maybe it was just all the background noise. it does work though which is pretty cool imho.

Doesnt really mention it in the spec allthough it does on the other link.
I would imagine you would need a pc to be on with the nas all the time. You would need a very fast PC for this also i5/i7 Id imagine

the whole point of the NAS is that you don't need a PC on at all, but even if you did it wouldn't need to be very powerful at all considering that you can manage the whole thing from an android or iphone.

the surveillance station app on the synology NAS handles both the recording, alerting and viewing needs of up to 700 odd camera's, although if you have that many you'll want a bigger NAS, which synology do sell several of, with all the same features from 2 disk right up to 5 disks which can also handle up to two more external 5 disk expansion boxes for up to </> 40tb of storage.

if you need more than that though, you might want to consider something more robust. :D

you can also use the NAS as a torrent client and/or download station, multimedia server and many more besides with the extra apps available for it so it's main purpose is to allow you to keep access to everything on your home network without needing to leave a PC on 24/7. :)

    Hi vibe666

I had a look at your links.
I bought a Synology 410j last year for media storage and backup.
I had CCTV in mind now.
I think that Synology only allow you one camera licence. Extra licences must be bought for additional cameras ?
They also have a list of specific hardware that is compatible with their system?
Do you think your camera model will work with Synology?

It seems a bit too good to be true. Ive been looking into this idea for a while and seems to be too costly for a decent setup. But if this did actually work for that kinda money it would be great but I cant imagine the hardware on that NAS is up to much at 129 quid..

I already have a NAS. It has a bit torrent client on it which works well. A little box like that compressing 100 odd camera feeds at the one time seems a bit far fetched.

    http://networkvideosystems.co.uk/WebRoot/StoreDaily/Shops/eshop145782/MediaGallery/PDFS/Disk_Station_DS110j_data_sheet_PDF.pdf

1 x camera licence is free (rest have to be purchased)

Maybe 1 or 2 cameras on this might be ok? Think the frame rate has to do more than the camera thats being used rather than the NAS although the nas can only handle a certain amount of info at any given time.

Bit iffy about it but if someone told be theyve used it I would be pleasantly surprised

i think it was free for multi cameras, but an upgrade removed this.

    those dirty feckers. :(

balls, oh well that's me flummoxed then, sorry.

those camera's do have their own built in web server and mobile GUI as well to allow you to remote control them and you can set them up to FTP images & video to permanent storage somewhere as well, but i'm not sure how well it would work.

it does seem (from that thread) that there are other free alternatives though, so it might still be a viable alternative.
