My daughter who is 23 and sharing a house with 2 other women is now pregnant. She is currently working but will have to give up the job When the baby is born. The farther of the baby herd the news he packed up and fled.
My daughter wants to move back in with me but at the moment i have a lodger who pays me through the rent allowance.
My question would be if my daughter was to move in with me would she be able to claim the rent allowance for living at her dads (Me)

Renting from a parent: You will not get Rent Supplement to help you pay rent to your parent if you are living in the family home. If your parent owns a second property, you will generally not get Rent Supplement to rent this property from them unless it is a bona fide tenancy and you are assessed as having a housing need. Your parent must also be able to prove that they have a history of renting this property.

Its a pity your daughter will give up work when her baby is born. She can get OPFP and still get quite a good wage. She could also get FIS. Dont let her make any hasty decisions. She should persue the father for maintenance through the family court process.

As the above poster states your daughter will not need to give up her job if she doesnt want to. If she claims one parent family allowance she is entitled to work a 22 hour week ( maybe 19 not sure what current hour limit is) She can earn up to four hundred and something euro and still keep some of her OPFA. Or work part time and keep the full amount which is about 220 a week. Also she will be entitled to rent allowance which is enough to get a place of her own. Check local rates. For example a single parent in Galway city can rent to the value of 700 euro. She is left to pay just about 30 euros a week. She can also claim family income supplement while working.

Theres no limit on hours worked. OPFP recipient can earn 146.50 euro per week and keep all of the payment. 1/2 the difference between 146.50 and 425 euro will be assessed as means.

she will not be allowed rent allowance if she lives with you or her dads houses, i know this for a fact, best bet is to get herself a bedsit or small flat for a while at an affordable price,
