You can't really define a hipster but you can spot the gimps a mile off.

People who take themselves desperately seriously but vigorously deny it in order to be 'ironic'...

    Cunts basically.

People that shun the mainstream because they consider it uncool. Which is ironic because they are now the mainstream.

Not a new phenomenon. They've been around for years under different aliases.

...just search for "being a dickhead's cool" on You Tube - it explains everything through the medium of song.

(I prefered it before it went mainstream though)

Hipsters were Hucksters on Napster, and now wear Hipsters while driving their Boxsters around Munster. Preposterous.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

You'll also recognise them by the fact they'll bitch about hipsters despite very obviously being one.

a similar tactic used by a lot of goths

    Places to find hipsters (Dublin)

    The Bernard Shaw
    Trinity Arts Block
    Crawdaddy
    Pygmalion
    Lost Society

    Often look unwashed/dishevelled.
Basically that song being a dic.k.heads cool on youtube sums it up!

Don't forget NCAD, it's a ****ing breeding ground for them. The Grand Social and the flea market in New Market are infested too :(

PS also any ****ty art gallery launch with free drink, that they swip and try to drink in my local, even having the cheek to ask for glasses.

Some who values independence of thought, so dresses like every other hipster.

But seriously, I do think there's something to be said for it.

They have similiar triats, these are only some:
    • Love Apple products for no other reason than because Windows is so common
    • You're not non-conforming if you don't have a pair of Chuck Taylors
    • Skinny pants
    • A 1950's detective hat.
    • Garishly coloured clothing that must be all over the place and make you look like you're colour-blind (Bright yellow t-shirt, Dark Blue cardigan, Grey pants, Green shoes)
    • Wear sunglasses when it's not necessary
    • Listens to horrible music or terrible covers of popular songs because nobody else will and that makes them think that they solely found this band.
    • Wear thick-rimmed glasses (no lenses optional)
    • Go to clubs and dance to truly dreadful "techno" music like you're a marionette puppet with half of it's strings cut off. You know the dance....
    • Only smoke rolleys
    • The hair must be short on one side and out of control on the other. Curls are a plus since it makes you look like some mad fashion genius.
    • If it's not mainstream then it's for you.
    • Your favourite instrument is a kazoo

Follow some of these traits and you're well on your way to being a unique, independant, non-conforming and different person from the masses................like every hipster out there.

I think a lot of hipsters have moved away from some of those things on the list.. It's scenesters that most people see these days.

Scenesters are into the whole emo / punk / rock guff, aren't they? Anyways, here in Galway it's like a hive for hipsters.

Once went out with a girl whose friends turned out to be hipsters..........very, very annoying hipsters. Their influence on her was too stong and she was a lost cause by then, the snobbery and elitism was funny at first since they were easy to rise but I quickly got sick of her & their shìt and bailed out.

I drew the line when they said Die Hard was for "brain-dead morons" while **** over themselves on how brilliant and "like, totally random" Spongebob Squarepants is...........*shudders*
