i was out doing a bit of gardening in the sunshine today when i heard something i never heard before in the skys around carlow. it sounded like an eagle calling when i looked up i seen two raptors of some kind very large soaring very high circling each other so i ran to get my binoculars.
they were so high up i couldnt make out colours with the bright backdrop. they soared with hardly a wing beat playing or displaying by flying into each other feet first and grasping for a second then letting go and circling again calling all the time.
what were they likely to be kites/buzzards/eagles??
are any of these breeding in carlow/kilkenny??

if they were mewing like cats they were buzzards but I'm not familiar with the sounds of sea eagles

More than likely they were buzzards - rather noisey at this time of year as young birds are still hassalling the parents for food. And yes, buzzards are well estaiblised now in Carlow:)

Please don't be too specific with the directions! If the person asking knows there are plenty of Buzzards in Carlow, then he shouldn't need a specific location for these particular ones.

Fine. Then get them there; but I don't advocate giving exact locations openly to people on public forums like this. If they are so common in Carlow you shouldn't need the specific location given here.
It's no big deal and certainly nothing personal against you. I just advise caution on any queries for large bird of prey locations.

thanks for the replys guys, i seen them again today, or should i say i heard them first , but again too far up to clearly make out colour no binoculars this time, then this evening i seen a flock of rooks, jackdaws and swollows chasing what must of being one of them into the woods.
the only bird of bird of prey i have ever seen around here is the sparrowhawk so im amazed with these new comers to the area.
on the other hand my pet wood pigeon has'nt being around in almost two weeks:(
