mic problem (electric shock)

    Probably a strange one...but

I keep getting an electric shock from my mic (seinheiser). It's plugged into the PA system along with 2 other mics (they are all jack leads not xlr). I play guitar (fender tele) and everytime I put my lips on the mic I get a tiny electric shock. None of the other band members get it from their mics or mine (drummer and bass player)

I've had someone look at my guitar and all the wires etc are fine. I've checked the leads and all my pedals etc and it still remains.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how did they solve it. As you can imagine its very frustrating.

    Thanks

    Eoin

It's most likely one piece of your equipment has not got the earth connected.Either something on your guitar amp or your pa amp.Open all your mains plugs and check that the earth wire, the green and yellow one is conected properly. If you have a multimeter check the continuity of the earth in all your mains cables.Remember to unplug them from the 13a sockets first.

Used to get this all the time. Just keep your lips off the mic and you wont die. I didnt anyway!

This really bugs the crap out of me as well.. I got a mic cover, like this

It looks a bit stupid but it does the job..

That's what I've seen used before, it should keep you from making contact with the mic and getting shocked. I've had band members get shocks off equipment they've been using for years but only in some venues.

It's an earthing problem, right? I think it might be the jack cables' fault. Plug your mics in with XLRs, which have a third wire for earth. Jacks only have Live and Neutral.

My Dad's friend's brother died by electrocution from a badly-earthed microphone. Always test-touch a mic with the back of your hand, because if you use your palm or fingers or anything, a badly-earthed mic's shock can be bad enough to make your finger convulse, making you grab onto it really tightly. And that doesn't seem like a lot of fun :(
