What does this mean?

I was looking at a Sat nav and it says in 175yd in the altitude section? What does yd mean? it just yard's? And what does HDOP mean?

Yep, that will be yards. You should be able to change of to metric in the settings somewhere.

HDOP means Horizontal Dilution of Precision .. it's a measure of accuracy of the given position.
