Is it illegal to have tinted windows on your car. Will it pass an NCT.

Any tint on front or side windows will fail, only tint on the back window will pass, the most akward place to put it of course!!

Check the rsa website. The handbook used by the nct inspectors is on there and has everything you need to know.

Just to be odd about it, manufacturers started fitting tinted windows as OEM back in the 1970's to "regular" cars, so no, OEM tinted glass will not fail the NCT.

However, if you have added that plastic sheet to further darken the windows, it will fail if it's on the windscreen & front windows (unsure about tailgate window).

AFAIK you can have tint on the front side windows, it just has to have light transmission > 65%
