I have wanted to go to Istanbul for ever, since I was a little kid.

I have some time off work at the end of September and was thinking of going on my own to Istanbul for 4 days.

Im male and in my 20s but would be a bit nervous in nature so I need to know, is it a safe city? Are there areas I should avoid? Is it advisable to go solo? Thanks

Been there solo and not had any problems. Lots of history to see, plenty of nice food too. Be prepared to fend of a swarm of rug selling shop keepers trying to get you to visit their shops around the main sights if you stop for more then 10 seconds (sometimes even when you keep moving) and your fine. My defence tip is that when they speak to you, answer in Irish until they're convinced you don't speak English and they'll move on to the next mark pretty quick.

Agree a taxi price when you get in! Like all taxi drivers they only know where their home and the airport is!
