Pajero dilemma

    Hi All,

My brother brought in a Jap Pajero ,3.2 petrol (Yes PETROL, could be 3.5l - not sure) automatic, a few years ago. Hasn't really been used & he's fecked off to America. It's a really nice 7-seater with only 20K miles. I can have it for nothing but running this in Ireland would cost a fortune. Tax alone costs E1566 & it ain't too light on petrol. Just wondering if anyone could convert this to a 2.5 or 2.8 diesel or would it really be worth the effort. Does anyone do these conversions?.

Probably buy a decent diesel Pajero for what it would cost to convert to diesel. Anyone got any suggestions - scrap it?

    T.

TBH the diesel engines are not much better on fuel.

It should be a 3.5 V6 in those I think. Why not convert it to commercial to the tax will be cheap at least.

Sorry, forgot to put a year on it - it's 2000 but in fantastic condition.

Converting to commercial - does that mean removing seats etc. I need a 7 -seater with kids so don't think that's a runner unless I'm missing some trick;)

If you're thinking of scrapping it I'll give you €250 for it instead :)

Well, if you really wanted to do it your local garage should be able to handle it, you should be able to source a 4D56 2.5L engine easily enough.

However, being realistic for a minute, such a conversion will cost money, you'll still be paying €935 motor tax, and you'll save a few €'s on fuel.

So it comes down to your sums OP, do you plan on keeping it long, will you be doing much mileage etc. You can buy a lot of pertol for the cost of an engine change. This and the difference in road tax would really only make it wortwhile if you plan on keeping it for a few years.

Scapping should only be a last resort, as suggested throw it up on donedeal and somebody will want it.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
