Why do most celebrities have facebook pages and not profiles???

I know there are a few to name who have actual accounts they can befriend people, send messages and whatnot.

But this one really baffles me. The likes of Barack Obama and Cheryl Cole have "pages".

I know we more than likely wouldn't be able to add them or whatever as there is a 5,000 limit or whatever.

If I were famous I would rather have a profile because its so much more handy.

    What do you guys/gals think?

I can guess but I don't for sure the difference between a page and a profile :o

Obama staffers make good use of twitter though so maybe OP, they are concentrating on twitter, not facebook

Yes, but then you'd have a load of weirdos messaging you about how they're touching themselves and thinking about you.

I think it's easier if you have a 'profile page' for people to look at it and see what you're offering. They probably have real 'profile pages', but that are closed to the general public, or go under a cunning alternate name like Barack O'Bama.

I'm sure some of them have profiles to stay in touch with close family members/friends but probably use different names and not obvious looking pictures.

A lot of them are fake pages.;)

As someone who administers multiple pages, a page is MUCH better if you're a business or a famous person with fans.

What Obama and the like probably do is have a private profile which absolutely nobody can see unless they've been added, and use it to administer a page which everyone can see.

Eduardo Saverin does this, for instance.

They probably do have private profiles with the highest privacy setting and different names. Most celebrities profiles you see are fakes, but pages are real.

Dunno why so many people/organisations have facebook pages at all rather than a proper bloody website.

I dont want a facebook account and I dont see why I should be forced into signing up for one just in order to access your crap

Famous people have pages because you can have multiple administrators added to a page to keep it updated and can log in from their own personal profiles. So in essence you become a fan of lady gaga you are most likely looking at posts from a PR company and not gaga herself.

You also can't send fan pages private messages unlike personal profiles. And you can only log in once to a personal profile unlike fan pages.

fan pages - easier to maintain due to many admins, no weird messages from stalkers.

Surely it's obvious? If someone likes your page, all your friends see it too.

You can only have so many friends on a profile, a friend of mine who is kind of well known had a profile page, then he got too many friends, it won't accept anymore new ones, so he had to set up a fan page too. He has to operate both at the moment and it's driving him mad, will shut down the profile when the fan page is the better known one.
