Want to Upgrade my Dell Inspiron 530

Current Settings

Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33Ghz 2.33Ghz
Memory - 4.00GB
Motherboard - g33m02
Graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

Want to Upgrade the processor, memory and graphics card so that I can run dual monitors(ill need another one, maybe 23"). Need to get a tv card too. Any suggestions would be most helpful. My budget ranges from 600-750euro.

You can't save your RAM as its DDR2, and Dell cases are pretty dire. You're better off doing a full new build and just keeping your DVD drive and hard drive. Might even be worth getting a new HD as well if your old one is almost full. You'll need to do a fresh install of windows anyway.

Cheers Deconduo. I was afraid you;d say something like that. I'd like to avoid a self-build if possible as ive tried it before and would have a more enjoyable time banging my head against a wall. If i can just build on what i have without messing around with re-installs / wiring that would be great but if its looking like i need a complete new system then ill go down that route.

I just want the TV card for basic cable.

I'm happy to build it for you for free if you're in Dublin

For cable you need a DVB-C card as far as I know, but I'm not 100% sure. If you have UPC I don't think they even allow you to use a TV card.

Deconduo's build kicks ass for 600eur but if you don't require the newest and the most shiny gameplay (=up to 1440 resolution and medium quality effects) - go for Adverts.ie and find yourself only a graphic card for around 100eur

I read elsewhere on this forum that buying a case - power supply combo isnt ideal. I couldn't find the reason why. Let me know what you guys think. This is mainly being used to play Battlefield 3 and gaming in general.

Do you really need 16GB of ram? 4GB is more than enough for gaming :eek:

and generally the power supply's included with cases are low quality and do not live up to the wattage they are advertised as.

You may as well get a super flower amazon 550W psu

changed a few things, added an ssd and a dvdrw instead of a dvdrom. Changed the mobo to something that will allow you to OC.

Thanks everyone.

I went with what i selected myself. I didnt want to go through the whole configuration process again. Overall im happy, abit annoyed about the excess ram but it does add to my e-penis if i ever wanted to print my computer setup in my signature (which i wont).

Now i wait for Battlefield 3 to be released...
