According to this DCC website the Marlborough Street Bridge was to begin construction in 2009 ...so, where is it?

Little point in building it if Luas bxd does not get the go ahead.

I think it has got the go-ahead in the last month.

It is useful for Luas BXD, Metro North and a general improvement of flows at O'Connell Bridge.

I read somewhere that O'Connell Bridge is not fit for purpose so would be interesting to see how it holds up with Luas going over it. They'd really need to get this finished in advance of BXD

Long before any tram rolls over the new bridge we'll see a variety of Bus Routes using it...just wait n see...:)

At one stage there was a suggestion that the Army Engineering Corps would provide a short-term structure in advance of the Main Event...I wonder if that is still a runner ?

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

O'Connell bridge not fit for Luas, or for the job it's doing now?

I think there was an article in one of the broadsheets over a year back saying that the bridge is in urgent need of attention but that it was too critical to the traffic flow of the city to be shut down and repaired. Can't find a source unfortunately.

It does look like it shouldn't be capable of handling it's own weight let alone the traffic on it considering how vast the bridge actually is.

It's actually a nice looking bridge, without being too showoff-ey. Sort of fits with the modern design of some of the new landmarks (Spire, CCD, IFSC, etc.)
