Fantastic car for that money. I'd have it over a focus anyway. Never really see these lancers on the Road which is a shame.

Is there a reason for so little of them out there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,549 ✭✭✭BrianD3

They're being advertised for 18.9k on Mitsubishi's website - so with discounts an already registered one would be about that price. It needs to be that price considering that an unregistered Fluence is about the same price in diesel, costs 200 quid less in motor tax per year and has a better warranty and a much bigger boot.

Sporty pretensions? Not really, it has 109 bhp.

Fluence is a cheap and nasty looking thing though, the Lancer looks decent.

If you're set on one I'd recommend the FQ400.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,347 ✭✭✭si_guru

    I reckon it is this...

    Emissions: EU5 compliant, 153 g/km CO2 (min) and 153 g/km CO2 (max)

Is a newer sub-150 car coming out?

That aside it is a very nice car for Fluence money.

    It's cheap for a reason.

Think modern day Diahatsu Applause, or Mitsi (No) Charisma. Tinny and nasty, but not as bad as a Kia Rio (mentioned elsewhere).

    :D

Nah just spotted it and thought it looked a bargain for someone.

There is a new diesel Lancer out for Flatulence money I think except that it's band B tax and has 150bhp and I'm told it's a good drive. I know where my money would be going if, as RJ says, I had a wife and two kids.

The 2008 reg ones, which I imagine would be in the same ball park as the 2011 ones are quite decent for what they are, not tinny at all imo.

Is it possibly one thats been sat up a while, that the dealer has taken a punt on and registered?

Best we can do is agree to differ then.

I was in a 2011 Lancer recently. Crashy suspension, and panels you could easily flex with your pinky.

    Not remotely competitive imho.

Have you sat in one? My uncle had a 1 week old one in his garage for repair last year, horrible cheap nasty yoke with nothing bar seats a steering wheel and radio on the inside. If I have paid anywhere near 20k for it I'd be very dissappointed. Felt liek a mid 90's jap import.

Have you sat in one? .........

    A Fluence or a Lancer?
A friend who emigrated to Oz was home for Christmas and had a Fluence rented while he was here, he had a 307 years ago before he emigrated so wouldn't be anti French car wise, he thought it was an awful yoke. When I was in it the cheapness of it amazed me, it feels like a really cheap car, they look it too with that Halfordsesque exhaust trim.

Was in a 2008 Lancer, thought it was quite a decent car.

I would much prefer a lancer anyway. Nicer looking car to say the least.

    The Lancer.

I've only briefly sat in a Fluence , found it very similar to the Megane which I dont find cheap feeling at all.

In fairness the TomTom editions actually feel very nice inside but the basic models are very cheap feeling inside. You pay for what you get with them.

The catch is that it's rubbish. Take that 16 grand and set fire to it!

It's a billion miles behind the competition... in fact a clean 3 year old Focus/Golf would be a far better bet IMO.

It's reliable, nearly new, nice looking, has a decent spec, nice to drive and has a full warranty.

It's a smart choice for a new car rather than just following the sheep.

Needless to say I completely disagree.

Nice looking? It looks at least a decade out of date! A smart choice if you just want A-B and intend to keep it till it falls apart, cos it will be unsellable in the used market. It's not as daft a purchase as that 11-D Nissan Primera that was posted up here a few weeks ago, but it runs it close IMO.

I used to like the old Lancers way back in the day. They looked quite decent in the late 1980's, early '90's compared to the dreary competition. Trouble is, the 2011 Lancer isn't that far off the 1995 version whereas the competion have long left them behind.

Fair enough, but I don't see how a 3 year old bland looking 1.4L Focus/1.4 Golf baseline (it's direct competitors) for much the same price (or a bit less in fairness) would in any way be better than an 11 reg Lancer.

I think you could do a bit better than a baseline Golf/Focus for that money but I was throwing that out there as an example of where better to spend your cash.

The Mitsubishi just isn't at the races these days, when you've got Golfs/Focus/Astra/Octavias with 15 airbags, tiny emissions, well equipped modern and decent quality interiors, etc. It's a shame, as I think they did do decent cars back in the early '90's. The Gallant was particularly nice. It all went wrong with the ironically named Carisma. The Lancer disappeared for several years if I recall and then was "relaunched" again as a budget-mobile... and only in Ireland as far as I know.

The trouble is, with the shift towards low emission tax-friendly diesels, the Lancer seems even more awkwardly out of fashion, even if it is cheap.

You could get a 2.0 Petrol Estate in the UK.. confused people bought them thinking they were getting a RallyArt-wagon.

Anyway the same money only buys a 60ps Fiesta or 1.2 Clio both with no Air - if you have 3 kids you just bought it!

Only thing for me that looks more interesing at €16K-ish is Fabia 1.2TSI Elegance.

The Lancer is probably bulletproof, but the depreciation on those yokes in the future is going to be unreal because the emissions are so high and there is literally no demand for the things. I was actually looking at a four year old Lancer, 1.6 litre, 17k miles, leather interior, air conditioning, etc. that was selling for £3,850 up north. I notice that several months later, the car is still up for sale, which would lead me to think you'd probably get the thing for close to £3k.

I thought they disappeared from Ireland competely in the mid-00's but were launched in the UK?

    Are you joking?

The current Lancer is a complete POS. Already overtaken by the current Korean offerings in every single way. The Japs need to be sh1tting themselves at this stage cause anyone in the market for a fridge like a to b vehicle is going to look into buying 7 year warranty Korean and not 3 year warranty similarly sh1te Japanese car...

1996 model Lancer soldiered on here until early 2003 by which time it was totally outclassed even by budget opposition. The next model was launched in late 2004 which was in reality a facelifted model that was on sale in Japan since 2002.

Current Lancer doesn't do anything special but is no worse than the current Corolla saloon yet doesn't have the same affinity with Joe Public. Crucially though upto now the Lancer didn't have low emission petrol or diesel engines and companies like Kia and Hyundai have moved the game on in recent years where the i30 and Ceed are better packaged with longer warranties for similar money.

Was this car lent to Fr. Ted at all?? It looks Fr. Jack has been in and its been rammed up the rear end by 'two trucks!!' Not a patch on the 90's versions
