Hey guys, has any one lived in the stella maris estate in maynooth?.

It is a student estate by the looks of it and I was looking at booking a room there for the next academic year ( ill be a second year).

Has anyone got any information about the place?. The pros and cons?

Its located off the maxol station on the straffen road. I only heard of the place very recently as-well. There is some pics of it on the daft.ie website for maynooth. By the looks of it, it is a sort of enclosed housing estate containing about 5-6 houses all occupied by students.

I think it is just beside the kingsbry estate, unfortunatly google streeview doesnt actually go into the housing estates in maynooth as much so it cant be seen that way.

Ah right, I don't really know that side of the town so well.

Street view is in some of the estates; you can see in my bedroom window on it :pac:

I don't think it's an estate, i think it's just the name of the house.

I used to walk past it a lot, barely ever saw anybody going in or out  and I've never known anyone that's lived there so I'm no help really. We did go in one night on the way home in a sit at their picnic table for a while, they have picnic table :)

Oh and it's not just one house it's a few house, I think.

Never heard of it. If it's anything like that religious place opposite the schools steer well clear :pac:

I think I know where you're talking about. As far as I recall the apartment units are standard enough, but the landlord is meant to be somewhat intrusive! Bit of a walk too. I'd say there'd be nicer places closer to the college.

Lived in Maynooth for 22 years and only heard of this place now! Had a quick look online and yeah its just past Maxol on the way to Kingsbury. Found a quote for you on an older thread from boards.
Sorry, should've explained that. It's the name of the 5 student houses on Straffan road opposite the maxol station. They're in their own little estate, like a compound near the entrance to Kingsbry. ^ mins walk away from the train station - I lived there last year and I'd highly recommend it! They never advertise with the college though so not many people have heard of it!

It isn't too bad of a walk, probably 20 mins or so but it is close to a centra(or whatever it changed its name to) xtra vision, maxol etc and is not too far a walk from the train station and is right beside a bus stop which is handy!

    Hi there!

I lived in Stella Maris in 1st year. The houses themselves are pretty decent - living room is a bit awkwardly shaped/small but it's kept in good condition and the kitchens are pretty new. Electric heaters also so they're pretty easy to heat up in winter. Only major downside is the 20 minute walk to college everyday which gets very monotonous quickly!

It's a good place to live in for first years anyway, all 5 houses are kept for students only so it's a great place to meet people.

It looks quite close to the town which is good, i lived in carton court last year and that was a pretty far distance from the college even with a car (traffic is mental on the straffen road).

I'm sorry to say but it isn't much closer than carton court, maybe 5 minutes max depending on how deep into the estate you were!

As for traffic, there are a few ring roads around to get to the college faster but it all depends on your time table, if your in for 9 you will hit traffic everywhere, otherwise its not too bad! Have a look at google maps and you will see some back roads that will help out.

From Kingsbury you could either go towards Celbridge, go up past the irish schools then take the next left, then head towards Dunboyne and take a left for Moyglare will take you the GAA side of the college.

Send me a PM if ya want and i'll give some better directions/roads.

I live further away down that road and if the walk bothers anyone I suggest the purchase of a bicycle. Reduce the trip to 5 minutes then.

I've lived in Stella Maris (1st Year), River Single (2nd Year) and Village (3rd Year). I would definitely say that out of the three, River was the best due to location and private ensuite but it is more expensive than Stella Maris (which would be second best of the three).

When I lived there there was no internet, we all had mobile O2/Vodafone dongles which were good enough for Facebook, etc but not really fast enough for downloading. I found that the landlord was pretty decent, she was fair enough and only ever came around to warn us during RAG week when people were climbing over neighbours walls and generally acting like gob****es. There's also CCTV outside the compound and all the houses have alarms so your stuff is secure!

In general, if you can stick the mini-commute and dongle internet is good enough for you then living in Stella Maris should be fine, and it's definitely better than some other student accom I've been in. If you can afford to live on campus and you can get it then I'd say go for that!

Feel free to PM me if you want more details about anything! :pac:
