VW GTI Service Cost

Anyone have a good estimate of how much a service should cost after ~ 60,000km? Excluding tyres/brake pads of course, I just want an idea of how much the minimum parts change + labour would be in a VW dealership.

Tried to get a cost from one lately and even though the guy was able to come up with some estimate for parts, (he did it in his head and didn't really make it clear what the final figure was to me however) after looking through the service book he said he couldn't estimate how much labour would be, I'd have to walk around the building and ask in sales?! Needless to say this big mystery about pricing put me off from going back there.

I'm going to try somewhere else today and wouldn't mind having a ball park figure, as far as I know it's one of the "bigger" services as in it's not just an oil/filter and air filter change but I don't have the exact details, maybe someone knows off the top of their head the standard parts needed after this mileage? Spark plugs are needed anyway...

    Hi Ricky,

that type of service would be an oil/filter change, cabin filter, air filter and spark plugs, along with a total check of everything with VAG software.

I just had it done with George Dalton Motors in port laois, comes highly recommended from the folks on vagdrivers.net.

    Cost 230 euro.

Blackwater motors in Cork will do for the same price, or at least they were recently, think it was a special.

VW Dealer in Dublin will be more, not sure, maybe around 300.

What you listed sounds about right, is that 230 euros for parts & labour? I think the guy in the first dealership I went to had it up to 200 before labour was included. That price sounds reasonablle but unfortunately I'd need a garage in the west Dublin/Swords area. Cheers for the response.

outside of the usuals, plugs, oil and filters ... how are your brake pads?

But at 60k you will need to have the DSG box serviced (if it had the DSG box) which at the time I priced it was between €180 - €250 depending on what dealer I spoke to.

Mine was sold at 54,000km so i didn't get that far !!

Mileage derived guess :) 230 for what spunkmonkey described seems great value.

Manual so at least I don't have that expense. I have a feeling the barke pads might need to be changed but I'm not sure, how long would you usually get out of them? If they do need to be changed am I better off buying the parts myself and bringing it back to get them fitted?

Tyres are also on the edge (bad month, tax was also up!!) but I'm gona get those separately from another place I think, would rather get decent ones without paying a fortune.

Of course, the mileage was a dead giveaway!

Yeah I was thinking I'd be doing very well to get it for that alright. I just want to avoid any surprises really with tyres needing changing and tax up all in the same month.

I just got tyres too..I'll save you pricing around everywhere, as I already did it! Discount tyres/alloy-wheels.ie are the cheapest, they are in Blanch...

I got 2 x Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas..@ 137 each fitted. Check out online reviews..very very good..excellent grip, especially in the wet.

Also due to tax the car now too..I've spent so much on it lately it's depressing to think about it...2 tyres, major service, upgraded rns510 sat nave plus phone kit, new alarm and a remap..My savings have vanished:(

    (

    +1 for those guys.

I have gotten quite a few sets from them and always fairly competitive. When the missus bubbled a new tyre on me in a pot hole, they went out of their way to get me a similar one (Eagle F1 DS3G) even though they were discontinued.

BTW - the Eagle F1's were astonishing in the wet and the dry, but once we had a bit of frost or snow ... disastrous, very good argument for having a set of winter wheels/tyres in the garage !!

Some great value at the main vw/audi dealers at the minute. Seem to be cheaper than Indy really. I paid 120 for basic service. Seeing as oil & filter cost me over €80 the last time I changed it myself, it was well worth the trip to dealer. I was quited around €90 for spark plugs fitted although had just done them myself. Air filter works out around 25 fitted I think and pollen filter probably the same so thats about 260 or so for the OPs service. That would have been €400+ in boom times at main dealer. My part prices would be reasonably accurate as plugs and oils etc would be same in my 1.8T audi as the GTi

You shouldn't pay more than around €250 for oil, filter, pulgs, air filter, pollen filter and a scan on the computer.

That's exactly where I was gona get them as well. Was thinking of gettings michelin PS3's, although they are a bit pricier. I'm happy enough with the PS2's on it now and the PS3's are meant to be much better in the wet. Almost 40 euros a tyre cheaper might make me think about it though.

I also put a sat nav/media player in (Zenec), only thing left now is a remap:)

I was quoted 299 at a vw dealer (airside) yesterday for oil, filter, air filter, cabin filter (?), pollen filter, spark plugs and a "full diagnostic check" (I'm assuming this is plugging into a vagcom computer). I asked was that the best he could do it for and he was pretty emphatic about it, claimed it was some kind of deal. When you break it down into parts and labour it does seem kind of expensive. I just hope to god the brake pads are alright...

No doubt it is a deal compared to prices of a few years ago where an oil change was over €200.

That's the service I got done in Cork main dealer for €229. But I think that was for cars at least 4 years old even though it's the same parts used.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,561 ✭✭✭rickyjb

Shouldn't make any difference how old the car is once it's the same model and same parts used etc. Maybe it was to encourage people with older cars to get them serviced in a dealers, I suppose the older a car is the less likely you are to spend more money getting it serviced.

70 quid is a big difference though, I'm sure they still made money off it at the lower price.

Not really sure what choice I have anyway, it's the only garage I could walk to work from and I don't want to take the day off, I guess that's the price you pay for living in Dublin. I'd try and haggle but I have a feeling it wouldn't do much good.

Quick question spunk_monkey, were these 225/40R18 or 225/45R17? If they're 18's I might go for them.

You're happy enough with them? What have you had on before to compare them to?
