Where can I find searchable tax legislation?

Ok, I fouled up by posting a question related to property (wasn't thinking) so I'll rephrase more carefully this time ;)

Where is the tax legislation stored? Is it available online? I know google should help here but, aside from revenue.ie, I cannot seem to find links to the actual legislation here. The sticky links are very useful but I must be doing something silly not to find what I'm looking for (unless it doesn't exist).

I believe there was a 2005 change to capital gains tax related to assets that were unavailable for disposal - ie: you couldn't sell them for some reason like a will preventing you from doing so. Darned if I even know where to look though.

I'm not looking for tax advice here, just a pointer to possible legislation that I can show revenue. Or a lawyer. Or something :)

Actually, never mind. I've phrased the title wrong anyway - yes, I can search through tax laws and stuff from the revenue.ie site and others, including wikipedia which is quite useful. I just can't find what I'm looking for and can't ask without breaking the rules. Thread closed I guess....

Once again it is CAT not CGT.

    google life interest and CAT.

Basically the value of the property is reduced to take account of the life interest. There are Revenue multipliers for this in the CAT legislation

As for CGT that is to do with the disponer, You are talking about the receipients.

I cannot spell out the answer for obvious reasons but I can tell you where to look for it.

All Relevant legislation can be found at www.irl.gove.ie. Relevant legislation is the 2003 CAT Act, the Consolidated Tax Acts 1997 which covers CT, IT and CGT(The DTA) and the 99 SDCA.

The reason you need a professional is that there may also be stamp duty, VAT and the availibility of a CGT, CAT set off. That's why you need a professional with property and why these threads are locked.

I'd go see a professional or I can quote you.

    Thread closed.
