Noise reduction on vents

I have the joy of living beside house with 7 nigerians who seem to be somewhat aurally challenged and shout a lot as opposed to talking.

I'd love to block the vent in my sitting room to reduce any noise from them but obviously due to operating a gas fire this is not an option. I'm even considering studding the walls. However, is there something I can use to dampen the sounds that come in through the vent. I've heard about some sort of coil or spring style fitting that allows airflow but reduces noise. Any help would be great.
