    Hey all,

I'm on the mooch for a new guitar. Lpooking at les Pauls, either Gibson LP Studio or Edwards les Paul.

Have researched the Gibson option but have swayed away from the idea given mixed reviews of build quality and sound as a result etc.

However the Edwards option is really getting me thinking, from reveiws and threads on here, re: same. the Edwards option appears to offer a better spec and is wallet friendly for what you get.

Anywho..... having been a Strat player all my playing life (15+ years) what would be the best model spec for my playing needs.....metallica, gnr, zepplin, acdc, rush, etc etc.

Would like some tips from those more savvy on the auld les paul than meself so thanks in advance folks!!

I'm not mad on Les Pauls myself but have you looked into Heritage guitars? They are made in the old Gibson factory, they have a range of Gibson like guitars. They are supposed to be really good but they probably aren't as cheap as the Edwards. http://www.heritageguitar.com/models/solidbody.html
Another brand to look into would be Tokai. They do japanese copies that are supposed to be really good for the price, though they aren't as cheap as they used to be.
To be honest, I'd say any decent Les Paul with will get you close to those list of bands, most of them have humbucking classic rock tone which a LP will do in spades.

I haven't played an Edwards myself, but I have a Japanese Les Paul, and it's a beautiful guitar, plays and sounds brilliant, to me there's definitely no way to justify the price difference between a good Japanese copy and the real deal Gibson.

I was looking at getting an Edwards before I got my current one, and the reviews of them are great. Could you be worth checking out Tokai as well, supposed to be very nice.

I have an edwards 98 lts & their as good as any gibson ive owned
    Very light & resonant
Just stuck a set of the new slash aph2's in it ,dont like the standard jb's
I also have an Orville les paul junior & a burny lp custom with floyd
All 3 are amazing guitars but the orville is my favourite,I sold my gibson lp special when i got it no comparison
I wouldnt hesitate in buying one but if you have the extra few bob get the 130 lts

theres a signature les paul on adverts going reasonably cheap
would be in thre same league

It's a signature I have, that's a great price for it. Not sure what the stock pick ups are like (mine came with bareknuckles), but they'd be easy to sort out if you weren't happy with em.

i've had a hankering for this kind of guitar recently too....

been buying too much other stuff recently, but the Orville custom lp's look delicious! aside from that been eyeing up a tobacco burst tokai...

they seem to be the two that you could pass off as high end gibsons, and the edwards are as good without trying to make the logo look gibson like...

is there a reliable source for new orvilles or edwards?

When I was looking at edwards before, people were ordering from here http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/eng/

Yeah, I have looked this site. Deals look good. But I wonder if the savings are that significant when posted + duty is paid against buying from a uk stockist etc?

    So,

Having finally gotten the time to do some decent searching. Would does anyone have any guidance on the following:

    EDWARDS E-LP-112LTS/RE w/Tap Super Circuit

    OR:

    EDWARDS E-LP-92CD Black

    Thanks in advance....

As far as i know the 112 has a very slim neck as in jimmy pages 59

the custom has a big fat neck but very comfortable
form japan you pay price plus shipping & 25% +- on top for import taxes duties
so not as cheap as it looks

Richtone do them so just a few quid shipping on top
whether it will work out cheaper????

    EDWARDS E-LP-92CD Black

    Thanks in advance....

I'm pretty sure the one i have is a 92...not 100% sure of that.

But either way it's a nice guitar. Mine is a gold top, and the finish is really great. The stock pickups in mines or Seymour Duncan's and they do the job. I've no complaints. The neck is really nice, i'm not much of an LP player so i can't really describe it to you. All i'll say is that they're great for the cash.

EDIT: Be careful buying from Japan etc. You will most likely get stung for Customs which would amount to ~25% extra.

Thanks for the feed back Alan, and indeed to all.

Alan - is this similar to your by any chance? - ESP Edwards E-LP-92CD Electric Guitar - Black Finish

I have an Edwards Jimmy Page relic...the one without the coil taps (didn't want anything extra between the pickups and the output jack). Super guitar, I bought it after being very disappointed with the feel of new Gibsons that I looked at (they felt plastic for want of a better description). It came from Ishibashi, very easy to deal with, fast shipping and very well packed. Only change I've made to it is a set of Sperzel machine heads, the factory Gotoh machine heads are superb but I didn't like the mix of gold and chrome hardware ala Jimmy Page.

Just to say, Edwards guitars are milled in China and assembled in Japan so they´re something of a hybrid. Doesn´t necessarily affect quality but may affect expectations.

Everyone knows that Tokai in Japan make the best Les Pauls. :)

Check out this site though for the Edwards.........and the 'others'.
