It would be useful to have all the Saorsat long distance reception reports separate from the ongoing Saorsat discussion thread.

My friend in Cardiff used his 1.8m dish and my ka lnb, could only get 30% max signal. The signal seems to drop off the further east you go.

my sat installer thinks useing a 110cm solid dish it should be recieved in weston super mare up to portishead.

Dish size may or may not help.

For those up Scotland way, the East Scottish beam seems to have a DVB-S blank jamming signal on it.

There is a similar beam over North West france up to South East England. We have not received any reports if there is a jamming signal on this.

    My map here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=76537908&postcount=1881
seems to be the most accurate for Real life.

The following is what I have heard:

Machester - Only picking up East Scotland Beam -Not possible
    Anglesey -Working 100%
South West wales -1 or 2 reports.
Isle of Man - One report of Ok, unconfirmed, another report of not possible anywhere on the Island by professionals.
    East of Plymouth -Signal OK

As for getting the signal in Bristol, unlikely but no-one has tested it yet. The main deciding factor is if there is a jamming signal on the same frequency on the French beam. If not then you could in theory get the signal all the way towards London. If there is a jamming signal then the green line marked on my map is more realistic.

    Things you should note:

    1) It will not be easy to pick up
    2) Ideally you should go to Cardiff or wherever and confirm your setup of dish, LNB and receiver. Then travel back home.
    3) You need a DVB-S2 receiver. Settings must be correct. If receiver is pre-tuned then it will be much easier. Consider posting it to Ireland/Cardiff to get correct settings installed.
    4) You probably need a proper spectrum analyser for checking the signal
    5) A large dish is MUCH, MUCH more directional at 20Ghz. Probably best to start with a say 40cm solid dish. Align the dish to 9 East with a normal LNB first, then swap out
    6) The larger the dish the harder it will be to point. If the signal is weak, which is most certainly will be in your area then a large dish may help. However if the French jamming signal exists, and it is stronger at your location then no matter how big the dish, it will not work

Even if it does work, based on my maps (which are not necessarily correct) you are inside the French beam. I have warned my maps may be WAY off. If they decide to use the same frequency to jam you or put an internet carrier on the same frequency then a working signal may dissapear overnight.

I would be willing to loan you a LNB, at postage cost, for you to experiment with. Send me a private message.

Adrian, it's really not a great idea to post your mobile number on a public forum, if you need to pass on sensitive data you can always use PM's :)

Wow, good advice, about 10 months too late :o

    zg4309's recent map

My much earlier map (uploaded 16-06-2010)

Note the red line isn't the boundary, but where reception becomes impossible if the other spots have content. The limit is before you reach the line

A later revision (last year?) produced immediately after Eutelsat changed the NE Scotland spot.

The dark purple contour line is very likely the long term limit. This isn't much different to zg4309's map.
The 3rd outer contour (2nd pale purple contour line) is the limit if the French and Scottish spots didn't interfere.

The edge of the solid purple spot needs a larger diameter dish than Athlone/Portliose/Midlands area
