    Hi there,

Does anyone know what the easiest commute would be between Ranelagh and KerryGroup in Tallaght?

I'm considering a new position and just wondering how to get there other than the luas from Abbey Street which isn't ideal.

Currently I'm working on Harcourt Road and living in Ranelagh so I've it sown up on the commuting front but this job has taken my interest.

    Hope you can help.

    Thanks a million

You could walk up to Rathmines and get a 65/B.

Whereabouts in Tallaght are you going? It's a big place.

It's in Belgard Square Belgard Road.

Do you know how long the bus journey is?

    Thanks a million

Yeah, the 65 or 65B will take you right there.

You'll be going against the traffic both ways, so shouldn't be much more than 30 minutes. Probably more like 45 on a bad day.

Walk the canal to Suir Road and get the Luas from there.

65 is the handiest option. leaves you right at Kerry Groups door.

    Thank you for all that.

In relation to the 65 bus (which looks like a great option)-do you know how frequently it comes to Rathmines?

Rathmines isn't on the journey planner so is obviously a requested stop so I just want to figure out the frequency and journey time.

    Thanks a million,

The 65 and 65B are your best options, it's a short walk to Rathmines then about a 30/40 minute journey to Tallaght.

The 65 timetable not that frequent. The 65B is a better service but there are changes planned to this route which will see it re-routed away from the Belgard Road part of Tallaght, so I wouldn't be using that as a plan.

The other option you have is to use two buses. The 18 travels through Ranelagh and links with a few other buses which serve Tallaght, you can connect at:

    Harolds Cross - Route 49
    Sundrive - Route 54A
Drimnagh Road - 77 (soon to be renamed as the 27) or 77a.

This option will mean a longer journey, but I'm just highlighting the options available to you by bus.

You can also take a Luas to Stephen's Green, walk to Dame Street/College Green, and get any of the above buses from there.

You could cycle, it's relativly flat and the roads are wide.

Rather than that, I would suggest heading for the stop at Rathmines Garda Station (also used by the 18 and 65/b). If the 65/b isn't coming immediately, get any bus (15, 15b, 15e/f, 74, not 74a, careful with the 15a that stops at a different stop) to Terenure Library, where there are options for both the 49/a and 65/b from the stop at bus stop 1121 - Terenure Library (west of the cross roads) on Templeogue Road.

    http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Examples/Google-Map/?routeNumber=49&direction=IO&towards=Tallaght+(The+Square)&from=Eden+Quay
    Bus Stop No. 1121
Templeogue Road,Terenure Cross Library, Stop 1121

    Routes serving this stop:
    15 Towards Scholarstown Rd.
    15B Towards Whitechurch
    15E Towards Brookwood
    15F Towards Ellensborough
    49 Towards Tallaght (The Square)
    49A Towards Tallaght (The Square)
    65 Towards Blessington / Ballymore
    65B Towards Citywest
    74 Towards Stocking Ave.

Note that the 65/b take a direct route to Tallaght, but the 49/a make a mad detour through Firhouse.

    Thanks for all that help,

Final question-when are the changes to the 65/b route scheduled to take place?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,287 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

That hasn't been announced yet - sometime in the next few months.

I thought the 65b was being completely scrapped?

No it is being retained after all but will operate via Firhouse, Ballycullen, Killininny Road, and Firhouse Road West to Killinarden and on to Citywest.

The job location has now changed to Santry-which throws my commuting plan out of the water.

Anyone have any idea of the best commute to Santry from Ranelagh?

    Thanks a miillion

    Three options:

    1) Walk to Kellys Corner and take a 16/16a from the first stop on Camden Street
    2) LUAS to Harcourt (or 44 or 61 bus to the Bleeding Horse), walk to Camden Street (2 mins) and then route 16 or 16a
    3) Route 11 to Drumcondra and then any of routes 16, 16a, 33, 41, 41b or 41c
