Hehe, I swear I'm not trying to sell anything.

I'm honestly trying to see if there might be enough value in a wee afternoon class to warrant £30. Or if it will be nothing I can't get online for free.

    Cheers again.

always better face to face, if you learn just one thing out of it. It will be worth it

    Thanks Borderfox.

My gut feeling was to give it a punt, but at the back of my mind I'm worried about getting scammed.

That comes from watching too much Rogue Traders. :)

Scammed? For £29 hes going to let you into his world and show you some techniques with the camera that you'll probably ages to cop by yourself. It's up to you to keep your eyes open, your ears peeled and ask the right questions. Plus, you walk away with a print of your favorite image. I can't see a scam there.

I agree with everything you say, but I am unfortunately cynical in nature, plus I've never used one of these online voucher deal thingies before, so my default scepticism is enhanced. :)

Stuff it, in for a penny and all that.....

I go with a Camera Club to various locations every Monday, and may pick up one or two tips from the more experienced camera people. These tips would change the way I shoot.

The online tutorials will show you how to take a shot, but may not explain why you should take the shot a certain way, how it works, and why it works.

Knowing the how and why will help you take better shots, IMO, so the €30 spent face to face could be very worthwhile.

    Thanks Syco,

I was wondering about the benefits of this vs a club, and to be honest the little searching for a club I've done is suggesting they've gone a bit quiet for the summer, so this could be a pretty good alternative until things get going again.

Get in contact with the chair person of the club. The club I'm with doesn't have "club meetings" during the summer, rather we meet up weekly outside where the club is usually held, and go somewhere to shoot. Your local clubs may do the same. It's a great way to find places of interest near you and you get to meet the lads and ladies who go out to take photos.

    =-=

Oh, and check what camera the person in the above ad has, compared to what camera you have. No good if he's a Nikon head, and you have a Canon. Sure, the fundamentals of what he says will be good, but it may be harder to use what he says if the functions are called something different.

Thanks, will give that a try.
