Anyone else know and enjoy this late 90s TV show?

All my friends were glued to feckin' 'Dawson's Creek' and the risible 'Ally McBeal', but my sis and I preferred 'Freaks and Geeks', 'Popular' and, ahem, 'Felicity' (:o).

Anyways, loved 'Popular', it was tongue-in-cheek, sharp and pleasingly daft, gently poking fun at the high school drama formula, such a good antidote to the cloying, corny, highly unsexy 'Dawson's Creek'.

Later on in college on the early 00s, my fellow night-owl housemate and I would watch late night re-runs of it and enjoyed it just as much then as we did when we were younger.

    Good stuff. :)

I did, I loved it. And I find myself watching other shows going "Oh, he was in Popular" or "She was in popular" lol !

Obviously Christopher Gorham was the most successful actor from the show.

When I started watching Rookie Blue at the start of the show I was looking at Luke thinking he looked familar. Anyway, I was convinced he was Josh from popular. So did a bit of research, turns out he's his brother! They are very alike.

I also loved Felicity so I was delighted when Scott Foley showed up in Grey's Anatomy!!

Leslib Bibb has done well, moreso in recent times. Carly Pope...probably not as big Stateside but in her homeland of Canada she's till a big name.

I think 'Felicity' wasn't so bad, it was definitely more watchable than 'Dawson's Creek' plus Keri Russell was sort of mesmerising, even for a hetrosexual female like me. :)

Yeah, Chris Gorham was on 'Ugly Betty' after.

My sister also loved (and still does) 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', but I never warmed to it at all, despite being able to acknowledge that it was very sharp.

I'm surprised Carly Pope didn't do more, she had charisma.

Leslie Bibb gets to go out with Sam Rockwell IRL. I'm not jealous, not at all. :pac:

It's interesting to note they are all WB shows, Popular/Dawsons/Felicity....a testament to how great that channel was at producing programming for the teen set :)

Shame it wasn't all great programming though. Yes 'Dawson's Creek', I'm looking at you. :pac:

He had a few decent things before Ugly Betty aswell.

I'm with you. I never got Buffy, never. I'd hear people raving about it and I was like "Have I missed something!?"

Lol, ah I liked Dawson's Creek. If only Dawson wasn't actually in the creek, then it might have been better!

I much preferred Joshua Jackson anyway.

Popular was fantastic - and just like many other great shows of the same era (Freaks & Geeks, Undeclared, etc. etc.) cut short long before it's time...

Ryan Murphy (the same guy responsible for Nip/Tuck & Glee) was behind the show. Interesting fact for y'all

Popular > Glee. I did like Nip/Tuck though.

God, I remember Popular. What day was it on? I remember that we´d come into school the next day and we´d all talk about what happened on Popular!

Not really my cup of tea but I liked the show mainly cos Sara Rue was in it.

It also had one of the best versions of 'A Christmas Carol' (ep Fall on Your Knees) that I've seen done on tv.

"Popular" is "Glee" done far better: More interesting humour, less audience-pleasing antics, better characters, and that bit edgier and subversive. "Glee" needs more people like the Claw, Mary Cherry, and Nicole to bring the demented and the bitch into Ryan Murphy's more successful (but poorer) show.

Speaking of Popular...guess who showed up on an episode of Melissa & Joey last night?...yup, our very own Mary Cherry [Leslie Grossman], looking super hot and super slim.

Her face/body has changed quite a bit, took me ages to cotton on it was her!!!

OMG, I loved Mary Cherry! Her accent was gas.

Not a great pic of her there. Yikes.

I've never seen any of this! I was looking for something to watch this afternoon (instead of doing something productive, like working or going to a beer garden) so I think I'll get a few eps of this and see what the fuss is all about. :D
