Hi lads, I'm in the market for a used car, I'm doing probably 30-40,000 km per year on a mix of all types of roads so was thinking of a Diesel. I have a cash buyer (friend) for my current petrol car so will be able to go for a straight sale. I would keep the petrol car but it's a 1.3 so i am finding it to be very underpowered for the mileage I'm doing and motorway driving etc. I need an estate or hatchback due to work & kids. I looked at an Octavia 07 with 50 k miles and Passat estate 07 with 100 k miles in the past few days. Dealer is looking for about 10k for either which is about what I was planning to spend, does this sound about right? I have also spotted a 07 hatchback avensis on the net with 80k miles for €8k, but this is a private sale. Any of these cars would suit my needs, but having read through some of the threads here I get the feeling the skoda and passat are known for being troublesome. Is there any better options that I have missed, I like the new model mondeos also but used hatchs seem to be in short supply. I had an avensis d4d as a company car in the past and found it to be very good, if a little dull, but I am more interested in practicality / reliability than looks so i'm leaning toward that at the moment due to the price. I know a 08 would mean cheaper tax, but they seem to jump in price alot due to this and i have a sneaky feeling that won't last forever so I'm not willing to pay a big premium for a lower tax band car. Any advice would be very welcome.
