Stray kitten - how to win trust?

Woke up on Saturday morning to find a small kitten on our back doorstep. She (we seem to be referring to it as "she" although no idea what sex she is!) looks to be about 6 or 7 weeks old and seems to have gotten into the garden by squeezing under our side gate.We left out some food and water for her,she also appears to have taken up residence under our shed.We were gone the last two days, when we got back today she was still there - although she has been going out into our front garden so she isn't trapped. Cut a long story short, she is extremely nervous towards us (but not towards our 1 year old male cat) and we'd be happy enough to keep her if that was possible.Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we might win her trust?
