    Hi there!

If you went through the interview for TCD's Neuroscience M.Sc. interview, can you please tell me about it? I'm rather nervous and would love a better grasp of what to expect and how to best prepare.

    Thanks!

They asked me about my academic backgrounds (grades) etc. and asked me some simple neurobiological questions regarding the brain. It's not too bad; they're pleasant enough.

I didn't get the place, though.

Thank you! Why would they ask about grades if they have transcripts?

It's the neurobio questions aspect that I'm actually the most concerned about. My undergrad is in psychology, so I've been trying to study in preparation and I could really use some guidance.

I'm sorry to hear that. Any sense of why you didn't?

I actually have no idea, to be honest!

I wouldn't be the best person to help you with tha, unfortunately! He asked me to very broadly explain how cells communicate, if that helps!

I appreciate your sympathy!! I asked for feedback and they didn't give me any, but I just did really **** in the interview. I was in a fierce bad mood going in and failed to answer simple questions I knew the answer to. It didn't help that my grades aren't the best.

Oh, I just remembered, they also asked what I reckon my referees said about me; positive and negative. They also asked where I reckon I could improve.

Sorry I'm not much help, it's all a bit hazy!

You're a ton of help. Those are three specific questions; thank you very much!

I had my interview at the start of April so it's hard to remember exactly. They asked my to walk them through my cv. Because I don't have a neuroscience background they asked which classes I took were most like the course. They asked about my thesis. They asked me about neurotransmitters because I come from a drug development background. They asked me would I finish with a 1st class. They asked about my references.

I really messed up the interview so personally I think even before they met me for the interview they had decided to take me based on my grades and how in dept the course was I was doing. So don't worry too much cause they know how nervous people are for thes interviews and do allow for it.

There are a lot of people in the Msc class that have psychology backgrounds so if you express an eagerness to learn the neurobiology stuff I cant imagine not knowing it would be a problem! Especially since you have lectures on them during the year!

Hi there. This is really helpful thank you all!

I have an interview on August 7th. I'm really nervous because I've taken a year out since my undergrad in biochem and I'm scared I've lost the ability to talk the science talk I guess you could say!

How much do they expect you to know about neuroscience, an in depth amount? And how far into the content of your undergraduate degree do they probe?

Any advice would be brilliant! :)
