retrieving data from blank laptop

Whats the easiest way to transfer data from a laptop that that has died i think the hard drive is ok so i just want to get pictures and other stuff any help would be appreciated

An external enclosure on another machine us by far the easiest! An enclosure if you don't have one costs no more than €20 and you can transfer files from the old drive to another external drive or USB key

If you're replacing the laptop and the new one allows for 2 drives, you can insert it into the new laptop and everything will be there too

You Have 2 options here, and it really depends on how bad the dead laptop is.
If its powering up you can try to boot to a live CD like Ubuntu:

If the machine will not boot at all you will need a usb caddy, the type you need depends on the type of hard drive in the laptop.

Older models had IDE / PATA connections like this:

Your best bet is to take out the hard drive to check which one you need.
