    Hi all,

I won't have time to attend a ground school in person this year, so in the interim I'd like to do an interactive online course, or at least a DVD. I've got a book and it's fine but too heavy to carry around with me when I travel.

Does anyone have any recommends on a good online tool? I want to make sure a pay for the best one.

    Thanks a lot!

PPL or ATPL or CPL and for helicopters or aeroplanes?

I know that for ATPLs, Bristol's online question bank is basically what you'll be asked in exams. You can learn the answers and pass the exams no bother. It's something like €180 for 6 months.

For a broader knowledge you'd have to sign up to one of the English GS courses, not sure which is the best (as I've only used one) but Cranfield isn't too bad, however there's a lot of rubbish on it too that you really don't need to know

Thanks for the reply and sorry I should have specified, I'm looking for PPL!

I see Jepp have one (http://www.jeppesen.com/personal-solutions/aviation/center-content/online-training-demo.jsp) but I was hoping to do something JAA focused not FAA if I can find it.

I'm hoping to find more than just online questions to practice, but actually something that brings 'the book alive' if you know what I mean. Something interactive, very much like the FAA example above.

    hi davis,
i got the oxford ppl dvd's worked through them over a couple of months and then attended a intensive ground school course in the uk (5 day).
are you going to do your practical training in Ireland or uk/europe/florida?

Thanks Paul, how much were the Oxford DVDs? Do you think there's much difference in a DVD vs. something more interactive online? Benefits to both I suppose...

I'll have to see what's practical for the practical - right now I'd just like to get started, even if I need to refresh everything further down the line before getting into it.

the biggest issue is . if you want to train here you need to sit IAA GS exams.
i done the CAA(UK) ground school exams with Derek Davidson in Bournemouth and will be going to a CAA school in France for 4 weeks for my practical training.
    back to the oxford Cd's.
they were quite good but they are very in depth, takes about 12-13 hours per disk. Pm me regarding the cd's ill give you more info about them.
Another issue with doing the IAA ground exams is there is no offical question bank for practicing.

    Hello,

You may check on http://www.become-pilot.eu/search/flight-schools/advanced/ it is a european flight schools directory and they have a search module for specific type of trainings organised by schools on Europe, I found some in Modular-PPL Distance Learning.

    Hope it helps.

Some of the flight training schools have fantastic apps for the JAA ATPL in apple iPhone and iPad app format meaning you dont necessarily need a connection to use them

Thank you both for the suggestions.

Sideshowbob - thank you I've dug up a few good ones - The Great Circle looks promising for testing yourself afterwards.

    Cheers!
