    Hi all,

    I have a 2001 1.4 16v Volkswagen Golf, it has 80,000 miles on it.
Should I be thinking of getting the timing belt changed soon.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks :)

They are due to be changed every 4 years regardless of the mileage so should be heading for its 3rd change by now.

They use plastic guides for the belt so you have been lucky if you've made it till now without issue!

Most manufacturers so but for the MK4 golf 1.4's its just listed as every 4 years regardless of miles covered.

As everyone else has said, definitely get this done asap, I've seen a number of them let go, pulleys break etc....

Unfortunately petrol mk4 golfs are terrible heaps... my wife has one and I've had to do tons of work on it and have been really surprised by the lack of quality of the OEM parts etc.....
