When (If) you buy a birthday card, do you buy one that matches your personality or the personality of the recipient?

Also, does anyone else just hate birthday cards? I wish the whole concept would just go away. €2-4 for something that will likely be thrown away in a few days...it's like burning money.

I buy the cheapest one, people are more interested in what's inside or the present with it.

I don't go for 'witty' comments inside either, who keeps birthday cards?

It is a crazy concept when you think about it. the only reason i bother is because it's expected. I'd get one for my dad or nephews but that's it.

I go for ones with some sort of humour, ya know, to cover up the mushy feeling behind it all.

€4?! Where do you buy your cards??

The euroshop usually does 5 for €5 or somehitng like that. If I was gonna spend €4 on a birthday card I'd make it a moonpig one.

I bought someone close to me a card that just said 'Thank You' on the front for their birthday.

They still haven't forgiven me :P

Awful waste of money, you can say happy birthday and, if they're close enough, give them a hug for free and it'll mean more.

I somehow managed to get my nanny an engagement card for her birthday last year.

I used to hate birthday cards...but it's my birthday today and for the first time ever I have a card that says "To Daddy"....and it's great!

I make my own birthday cards. Not only do I save money, I let the people I send the cards to know I care for them.

I don't thing Hallmark or Clinton will have me as an employee anytime soon.

I love both giving and receiving birthday cards, I always try to chose one to suit the person and loved moonpig when it came out first, now there is a shop in my town that does excellent cards much cheaper.

I keep all my old birthday cards in a shoebox and it's lovely to look back on them from time to time, like old photos. In a lot of my past work places we would get a card and have everyone sign it so it's nice to have those memories.

My bf and his brothers have this thing going where they get the most ridiculous, depressing card they can find, like with an old lady looking out a window or a field with a tractor or something, it's quite funny to see what they come up with year after year!

was looking for a card for a friend recently and saw a "sorry for the loss of your child" with a sleeping infant on the front, worst taste card ever? was tempted to buy it and write -Hood at the end of the "child" part and give it to him :pac:
