Thinking of getting my first car and am looking at these. Anyone know of any problems to watch out for and are high milage examples worth the risk? Also parts...expensive I presume? Any advice appreciated :)

With just 90 bhp, they're very slow. Is there even a 0-100 time for one of these?

Nice car, I had one for a few years. Nothing major went on it, good on juice and reasonable tax at the time. Top speed and 0-60 don't mean a lot to me, so I found it a good car.

They are a good old skool diesel car with no complications like modern diesels. No problems only the 0-60 time.:)

    Consider this...

    Hi,
    I have an 07 320d SE Coupe(new model) 74000 miles.
Car bought from new and serviced since at Murphy Gunn BMW

Lost power & screeching noise started last week.. Towed to main dealer for diagnosis....Turbo shagged.
€2500+vat quoted for repair. BMW Ireland offered to cover 50% of the turbo part cost only but no labour.. I pleaded the case (car since new, full BMW dealer service history, loyal customer etc. etc.) fell on deaf ears. Repair cost with 50% part contribution reduced quote to €1450. Still a whopper.....

BMW said the cost of the part alone is €1850+vat.(the turbo is made by Mitsubishi)
I contacted Midland Turbo(portlaoise) who quoted €950+ vat for exact same Turbo, same part number, so identical.
BMW charging DOUBLE for the same part, before labour cost..!!!!!!!!!!! Very disappointed as a BMW customer at this rip-off.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Margins on parts are always sky high - nothing new there. When I used to work for one of the biggest white goods companies in the world, they were selling simple parts that cost them £0.50 for £25.00 :D

Good for you that you shopped around!

Sorry for your troubles, BTW and welcome to boards. There are many expensive problems with modern diesel cars. Search this forum and you'll find you're not the only one suffering out there!
