60 Days - Unless it has changed since 2009.

60 days , was 30 days as recently as 18 mths ago , nothing but a money making racket for vets , should be 12 mths , same as TB , more TB in the country than brucelosis afterall and very little of either truth be told

Brucellosis is still present North of the border so even though we are officially brucellosis free, as far as I am aware, we still need a pre movement Bruc test. The herd round test is every second year based on your herd number.

The problem is brucellosis is spread to people. Horrible disease just ask any older vets/ farmers.

So valid 60 days from date of test, females 18mths and over and bulls 2 years and over need Bruc test before sale.

7 or 8 years ago when ireland was declared 'free' of brucellosis, neighbours of mine with a young family were drinking raw milk and were about to change their youngest to whole milk when their herd went down with it. The husband iirc had it and was treated for a while until declared free. Both my parents and myself contracted it in the 80s. It is a b***h of a disease to get rid of. Thank god for pasteurisation (to borrow from another thread:D). I for one am more than happy to test every year until the island is free of it

more of an arguement against drinking unpasteurised milk than anything else

Be careful, it's 60 days, the generic '2 months' can get you caught out.

Can anyone tell me is the brucellosis test on an old stock bull only valid for 60 days the same as a cow. I blooded an bull to sell him and now he's got a sore foot and times running out!

That 60 days is a real catch out. Brought a heifer to mart last autumn with '2 months' in my brain, but my 2 months equated to 61 days. Back she had to come.

I think they are due to cease testing for Brucellosis late next month once the North are given Brucellosis free status and both jurisdictions agree on common regulations.

There will still be spot checks in herds though but the Dept will pay for the test if someone is selected.
