    Christ.

The French only have the one aircraft carrier.

The nuclear powered Charles de Gaulle.

I thought it was docked in Toulon for maintenance at the moment.

If this is true then expect France's surrender within a matter of hours

Greece will open its airspace to warplanes operating from the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, enabling them to join the international campaign in Libya, a Greek military source said Tuesday.

The French carrier is expected at the island of Crete by Wednesday and will position itself in international waters, the general staff source told AFP.

"Greece will give the green light to French fighters operating from the aircraft carrier on this date," the source said.

The island of Crete is a strategic springboard for operations in Libya.

Following the UN Security Council Resolution 1973, a number of Western nations have sent fighter jets to the Mediterranean to cripple Libya strongman Moamer Kadhafi's forces which have been attacking Libyan civilians.

As I've said, this is based on something from twitter, (the French carrier part of the post at least), it could turn out to be nonsense.

Tis fairly mad about the other oil tankers getting set alight, will see how it pans out.

Can't see anything on twitter about it.

    Thanks.

The last I heard, she was docked due to an electrical fault or something.

But thats probably a year ago now.

    Doesn't time fly.

The initial - and as far as I can see, only - source for this refers to "our" Libyan military. Hmm.

    Well, you know, the French...
... they always get defeated by smaller armies for some reason.

Couldn't even pull 1798 off either could they ... but in fairness, neither could we.

I've asked the question several times on twitter for someone to either confirm or deny the story but nobody will answer.

I'm starting to have my doubts but sure we'll see what happens.

Ah hang on, the presstv.ir was only for the burning fuel, nothing to do with the story about the aircraft carrier.

Ah, but they don't really like the UN either. You just know they don't.

I find this funny because referring to Twitter as Twatter makes you look a twat.

    Well played.

I think that was because they were too busy conquering the whole of Europe. And bits of Africa and Asia.

This thread is a perfect example of why I don't get my news from twitter.

Indeed. Someone sat down and did a study of 'French' battles going back a long way and found that they actually won a large majority of them (I believe). Recent event syndrome (especially from the US) means that people only think of WW2 nowadays.

True - they also seem to forget that if it wasn't for French support they'd be drinking room temperature beer and going to Yankee stadium to watch the cricket!
