Better value to get a proper Freesat HD box and a decent dish.

The Dish & Bracket is better than Lidl, but still poor.

How much would a freesat hd box and dish cost and wats the difference??

would a Triax 60 cm Dish and a freesat goodmans do which i can get on satellite.ie or would a sky 60cm dish with a quad lnb be abetter dish for 48.99

Freesat box much better than ross unit which are poorly made and the dishes supplied are rubbish, very light and move easily in heavy winds and are not manufactured properly to receive 28degrees.

Freesat box will give you access to the red button functions and digital teletex etc. Triax dish is a great dish but you will also need to know the angle required and a wall bracket to fit to the wall chimney etc, but a sky dish 60cm would be suffice.

Yes, Freesat receivers have a facility for viewing FTA channels but obviously you won't see them in the Freesat EPG.

Sky news is practically the only non-Freesat channel to tune in. It's not like FTA channels on an Irish Sky EPG.

For 75 its perfect.. I bought it but just replaced the LNB for a quad to split the to another box.. Bracket and dish are grand.. I got the HD box with it.. Picks up all the channels.. C4's, bbc's itv's.. and about another 200 channels of rubbish!! Use the pvr on it all the time.. Just plug in a external hard drive..

I intended to upgrade to a Humax box but ive found no need to yet!!

Edit: Oh and mine has not moved once in the wind.. Its on the back of the house at end of terrace.. Brackets being of bad quality seems B/S!

What would a good freesat box be for a older telly so it would be a sd freesat box

You could use a standard sky box.. just remove the viewing card.. Acts as a freesat box then..

An HD Freesat box gives a better pictures on older Telly.

A Skybox with card out isn't a Freesat box.

Not being funny, do a bit of research first - between the satellite and terrestrial forums, it's been done to death.

My personal preference, if SaorSAT is available with suitable LNBs (which supposedly there will be in a few months), is one 80cm satellite dish with 2 LNBs for 28E and 9E, and a suitable HD receiver. That way you don't have to bother with a terrestrial antenna and combiners/splitters for the signals, or worry about combi boxes, terrestrial and satellite STBs, and/or if the TV is Freesat and/or Saorview capable.
