What is up with the Croke Park pitch

Was at the games yesterday and one feature of them all was the number of players slipping. The same I notice was happening today, and given the number of different players involved it seems unlikely that it is stud selection problem.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on? If this keeps up it is only a matter of time before someone picks up a serious injury.

Rain, plain and simple. Any mist sits on top of a pitch with such a solid, dry surface very easily and even the lightest drizzle on match day is enough to make the surface slippy. I remember taking my seat at 1:50pm yesterday and thinking the stand looked a touch damp and that makes alot of sense given the slipping. For Roscommon fans this year that pitch was absolutely heavenly, though!

Its been like that since the place was done up.

I reckon it must be something to do with the faster pace of gaelic games too. It didn't seem to affect the rugby and soccer lads to the same extent when they played there.

The playing surface has been re-laid twice in in the last 2 years following concerts by U2 and more recently Take That.

Perhaps this constant tinkering doesn't give the pitch a chance to mature.
