Lucifer Walsh, meh. Apart from that, thumbs up for this episode - no nonsense.

Considering their attitudes to anything with a hint of green, they gave the Nissan Leaf and Peugeot Ion pretty fair reviews. The battery technology simply isn't there yet and short of some big leap forward, the electric car isn't really up to much. Ignorant of them to park in disabled spaces, but you kind of forget about that given the last piece with the soldiers which was quite moving.

anyone else notice that during the electric car piece they parked in the disabled parking bays? ironically in the final segment they were applauding disabled drivers

^edit: yep you spotted it too

Those soliders in the end. Unreal. They have some determination really. The injures were horrific. You hear about it but never really see it.

Louis Walsh in a Mustang!! imagine that... thought a pink mini would be more his thing

+1 on the soldiers bit. I've got friends in the RAF and I saw how badly they've been affected by operational losses. Had tears in my eyes when the team mechanic, Gavin, asked for time alone when he was speaking about the day he got injured, and the guy next to him was killed

I liked Hammond taking the piss out of Ben Collins too!!!

    Otherwise, decent enough ep.

Good enough, far better than last weeks. Far too much Hammond though! :(

I thought the electric Car segment was fairly good.

I did not however apreciate the RaRaRa Aint the British Army Great segment, I found it a bit nauseating, lets all feel sorry for these men who got themselves injured whilst INVADING someone elses country. I feel nothing but contempt for them and it makes me feel a litle sick when I see Top Gear cheerleading these warmongers.

interesting to see the EX Stig return

This was far from the usual MoD/Top Gear quid pro quo exercise we've grown a bit sick of. To be honest, nothing's going to top the Fiesta and the Royal Marines in that department. I'm thankful the house destruction silliness from last week didn't go hugely overboard with the military connection, though I did sigh a bit once that angle was introduced. Calling this week's effort 'nauseating' is a bit daft, imo.

its Supposed to be a Car show

Its NOT supposed to be a Promo Video for the British Army

I watch Top Gear for its Car based entertainment and shennanigans

When I see my evenings entertainment being hijacked for a Bleeeding hearts story about some British soldiers who, Surprise Surprise, Got Crippled when they Invaded someone elses country, it irks me

There was no entertainment value in the segment, it was cynically created as a Heartstring Puller 'Oh look at these plucky Soldiers' 'Arent they great for overcoming a disability' a disability Might I add that the wonderous British Army visited upon them in the first place.

I noticed the parking, thought in might have been some kind of joke or dig at the cars.

I missed the final segment myself so cant comment there.

well........it is at the end of the day a British TV program, made by a British TV company, paid by the British licence payer.

and if you don't like it you can always use this

In the politics forum you might have an audience.

In the history and heritage forum you might have an audience.

In the military forum you might have an audience.

But what's to say those soldiers weren't injured in British Territory, like The Falklands? Or Northern Ireland?

It was a deliberately stirry post. Just to bring the futility of arguing politics and military action and casualties on the freakin' TOP GEAR forum.

If I could report my own post I would!! :D

there ya go, You just made my point for me

Its rather annoying that Politics ends up in Top Gear

Most people reading these threads dont want to get intoa discussion onpolitics, and are annoyed that it has been brought up

ditto for a lot of us watching the program on Sunday

I watch Top Gear to for the Entertainment factor

if I wanted British Politics I'd Watch Jeremy Paxman when he's on, but if he Started Sh!tin on about the Fuel economy of the new Dacia Sanderos I'd be a bit put of as well

Em!!! If I'm not mistaken those soldiers were taking part in a cross country rally event. In CARS!!!! Imagine that! Cars on Top Gear. What were they thinking!!!

Jesus how cold hearted can you be to be pissed off just because there was a few tears in the middle of the piece. I'd love to see you air your views face to face with any one of those guys.

I thought the piece was very enjoyable and a bit inspiring to see what people can do for themselves when they refuse to give in to adversity. Would you feel the same way if they were Irish soldiers????

Looks like Nissan aren't too happy with the portrayal of the Leaf.
Remember when Tesla sued "Top Gear" over its portrayal of the electric Roadster running out of electricity and breaking down? Now Nissan is complaining about the show's portrayal of the all electric Leaf.
In a show that aired at the end of July, "Top Gear" presenter Jeremy Clarkson drove the Nissan Leaf to the city of Lincoln, where it ran out of electricity and had to be pushed by helpful bystanders to a charging point.
But Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer, in an interview with the U.K. newspaper The Times, said "Top Gear" made the whole thing up. Data from the car, automatically sent to Nissan, showed the car had only a 40 percent charge on its battery when Clarkson began his trip, although the car had been delivered to "Top Gear" with a full charge. Palmer also pointed out that the data showed the Leaf had been driven in circles around Lincoln until the battery went dead.
"Top Gear" made no apologies for the portrayal. Clarkson replied that he was attempting to show the difficulties one would face when running out of electricity in the Leaf.
In the same segment, presenter James May drove a Peugeot Ion, a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi i electric car, along the same route as Clarkson. The Ion was not shown to run out of electricity during the segment.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

It was clear that Clarkson was out to show electric cars don't work. No sensible owner would plan a cross country journey with an electric car - it's as rubbish as them comparing the Prius to a 320d against a cross Europe run, where as Prius makes all the energy savings on a typical stop/start city driving. Pointless.

On the plus side, Leaf looks like a nice car - inside and out, and they admitted it too.

No need for them kind of comments here. I'v friends and cousins in the u.s and english Army. Would you be saying that if you had friends or family in the irish army etc would you be saying that than if they got hurt or killed while in action.

I'm all for the war heros getting getting T.v time.

No, in fairness to him he's always been consistent with his opinions regarding this particular subject.

I disagree with him, but a troll is someone who deliberately stirs it up, just for sh1ts n giggles... MyHatMyCoat genuinely believes in what he says.

    Even if it is wrong

I wouldn't give him that much credit.

re parking spaces "controversy" that was all tidied up. Turns out the producer rather than JC and JM were responsible for that.
"Both presenters expressed deep concern to the film crew and I about using the disabled bays prior to filming, because of the disrespectful impression it would convey," said Wilman.

"They only capitulated when we assured them the parking had been approved by the owner, and that the disabled bay markings would not appear on television.

"This was our fault, not theirs, and we unreservedly apologise to all the viewers we have upset as a consequence."

Wilman added: "We did have permission from the owner of the premises to park in the disabled bays, which gave us a quiet spot to film in, and there were three other disabled bays available which remained empty throughout."

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/aug/02/top-gear-disabled-parking-row?INTCMP=SRCH
Helen Dolphin, Director of Policy & Campaigns for Disabled motoring UK said; “Disabled parking abuse is such a big problem that I’m not surprised members were outraged to see Jeremy and James parking in a disabled bay. However, Top Gear have explained that they were told to park in these bays and I’m sure next time they’ll be less inclined to accept. I’ve spoken to Top Gear and they were very apologetic about this mistake. We hope they will join us on our Baywatch campaign next year.”

I'm almost never home on Sundays so always tape it. Even if I am home, I'll still tape it, just in case the guest is a massive ****. It's so much handier to fast forward past it...
