I dont care if it was academy players playing today. Wednesday were beaten 14-0. Gary Megson was a premier league manager less than 2 years ago and now he is in charge of a team like that.

Yep. Apparently it was a very young SWFC team, bit of a mismatch that should never have been allowed to happen

Kids or not, they are still representing the club and I am a bit gutted by it

Came across that result on twitter, wednesday had their youth team out they must be a pretty awful youth team to let a conference team beat them so badly.

14-0 shouldn't happen, but a team of academy kids was always going to be well beaten by a senior team even if they were a conference side. Whoever set the game up ought to be ashamed of themselves - what good does that do a bunch of youth players?

    Feel sorry for the lad.

He sounds gutted and scared about the repercussions of the result for himself and the team.

A situation the poor kid should never be put in in the first place. The repurcussions for whoever arranged this should be far worse.

ALFRETON TOWN 14, SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY XI 0
    Sunday Jul 31, 2011

HAT-TRICK OF HAT-TRICKS FOR RAMPANT REDS

ALFRETON Town continued their pre-season build-up with a 14-0 victory over a youthful Sheffield Wednesday side who found themselves overwhelmed.

In front of 538, the Reds took the lead inside the first two minutes when visiting keeper Sean Cuff pushed a Josh Law cross into his own net for an own goal after just one minute and 50 seconds.

Goals came at regular intervals after that and three players notched hat-tricks, Nathan Arnold, Nathan Jarman and Paul Clayton, the last of which came from the penalty spot.

Other goals came from Chris Senior and Jordan Hall.

Full match report to follow . . .

Alfreton are back in action on Wednesday evening when they make the short trip to face Matlock Town at the Reynolds Stadium. Kick-off is 7.45pm

Must be a normal enough occurance. According to the Wednesday site linked above Sheff United sent their kids to play Alfreton a week or two ago and were only beaten 3-2.

It seems odd to me to have Academy sides play againsts senior pros. We don't really know if the Sheff U team was entirely academy players either.

Pre-season means absolutely **** all. If you can get through it with no serious injuries then it's a success.

Go and see where Alfreton are at the end of this season and then compare it to Wednesday's position.
