New build issue with ATI HD5850

    Hi Guys,

    Wondering can anyone help here.

I have an ATI HD5850 which I am trying to overclock but not having much luck.

In the ATI control panel I can see 2 different clock speeds and not sure if this is correct. The GPU clock says 765MHz and the Memory Clock says 1125MHz but then at the bottom, I can see 'Current Values' GPU clock says 400MHz and the Memory Clock says 900MHz. Even when I change these manually in the 'high performance GPU clock settings' section and click apply, I see no change in the 'Current Values' section. I can also see this difference in values using GPU Z.

I've also tried OCing with MSI afterburn and watched this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA_l5-HDel4 . I am follow all the steps exactly but I can't get my clock speeds to move up (like he shows at 5.40 in the video). The clock speeds just keep sitting at 400MHz and 900MHz even though I manually move then up (very slightly each time).

Any suggestions as to why I can't get above 400MHz and 900MHz?

The GPU downclocks the speed of the card to save energy when not in 3D heavy applications. Try running a game in the background and see does the "current values" change

No affect. Running Crysis and I can see the activity moving up to 100% on both the ATI control center and MSI Afterburner but the clock speeds remain at 400 and 900.
