UPC Packages

Firstly, apologies if there's already an appropriate thread I could've posted this in. I didn't see one, but if there is, feel free to merge it, mods.

Anyway, I'm looking at getting UPC Broadband 25 meg in my house. I'd also like their digital tv package. I was with Sky, but having felt that's too expensive, I'd like to change. I'm happy enough with the basic channels (RTE, BBC etc.), along with a few luxury ones such as Comedy Central and Sky One. From what I can see, these are all included in the basic TV offer. Sky Sports and Movies aren't of much interest, so I can live without them.

Now, I was wondering, is it possible to get a broadband and TV bundle? I know you can get broadband, TV and phone, but can you get it without the phoneline?

Also, I see that if you order it online and install the internet modem and digital box yourself, you save on the extra charges. Is it hard to install it? There's already a satellite dish on the house and we currently have a Sky box connected to the TV. Is installing UPC as simple as unplugging the Sky box and replacing it with the UPC one?

I heard that UPC don't use the same phone lines as eircom (which we used to be with for phone and broadband), so they have to install their own new ones. If they do this, are there additional charges? I presume we'll lose out on the €20 bonus for not installing the broadband ourselves, but are there any other costs?

    Thanks in advance :)

They do not install a phone line.
The modem has phone jacks on it you plug in your phone all traffic goes through the TV cable.

This is my situation if it helps, I've been getting the 12mb broadband for 2years now, moved house 4 times and it's been free installation every time, I rang them yesterday inquiring about their tv services and she said I can get the basic package for an extra 13 euro a month, from 33 to 46, she said if I agreed to upgrade now she could wave the 20 euro connection fee and give me 2 months free sky sports and sky movies so I went for it, don't know about 25mb.....

It's fixed cable, the satellite will be obsolete. They may have to run a cable into your house. So doubt you can go self install.

Changed from Eircom to these guys 3 weeks ago, ( In Dublin 15 ). So sorry now. Every day since BB and phone have been crashing. Have rang them numerous times, and find them pathetic.
Going back to Eircom, and if contract is mentioned by the others, I'll go spare.
