    advice for bookkeeping

start-up business for operation next year .Jan,2012
Do I have to record all the expenses incurred before jan 2012?
I got expenses incurred in 2010.
Do I have to record all the expenses incurred in accordance with their dates? Do I have to just record a total figure of expenses as a startup cost before Jan 2012?

Well if the taxman does a new business call, to see that the books are in order, they'd expect to be able to see what the breakdown of X amount of pre-trading expenses.

As I already recommended to you on another thread, this sort of stuff is where seeing a competent precessional accountant can pay for itself. Most accountants are crying out for work and will do free initial consultations these days...
