I think only RTE broadcast on DAB in Ireland, unless you live in one of the border regions or on top of a mountain in Wicklow.

    Which store?...all of 'em?

Ye i think they all do. They have most of the range of dock and DABs on offer. I got the philips AE5200/05 for a tenner same as this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-AE5200-05-Portable-Radio/dp/B002DMLKIY

I bought it ages ago for €30 for my dad as he wanted something basic, and he found it great so i picked one up for a tenner. Well worth it imo. There was 5 on the shelf when i got it. Not sure if the lava one was there, cause there was about 20 different models.

Great price! Beware of coverage issues.

You should check this first before you buy.

This is also a useful resource.

The ones in Athlone were in a strange spot, they were beside the blank media (DVD-r etc) rather than with the other DAB Radios.

I picked one up knowing that coverage was patchy in Athlone and there was none in Galway, but i thought I could use it as a clock/FM radio.... but I dont seem to be able to set the time? Does it get the time from the DAB or does anyone know how to set the time? There doesnt seem to be anything in the manual about setting it.

Got one from Arklow, you need a DAB signal to set the clock though and there isn't one in Gorey... boo... Only way, since the clock starts at 0:00 when turn off and on would be to do it at midnight... that would cure it.

None in Waterford and best to check the coverage map before buying as Waterford for example has no coverage yet tesco are selling loads of them

Tesco in Arklow had 'Tesco DAB-113b' this week for 9.50 so I bought one.
But outside of Dublin - including Arklow - there is no Dab signal. Even in Clondalkin the signal is weak so the dab service is pretty crap. But, ignoring the fact that it takes at least 4 button presses to change station, and that the mains cable doesn't detach, it's not a bad sounding fm radio .

but what a useless technology is DAB:
    - much more fragile signal, so hard to get a good reception
    - much higher power consumption. battery life is measured in hours rather than days/weeks for an fm radio
    - dab radios are so much bulkier and heavier than fm
    - already superceded by dab+ but do radio owners and broadcasters want to dump their old kit and get new stuff? again?

    rant over.
