I was going too fast on the M50 northbound about 30 minutes ago not long before exit 12 and I seen those lines on the ground that the speed cameras use to check how fast you were going.
When I went over it I was going about 115 in a 100 zone. There was no flash. My question is do all cameras flash? Or would I still get a fine?

I think you came in a close second in the crime of the century

Wouldnt worry about it, you wont get fined.

It may not have been the crime of the century but my parents would have seen it that way.

I noticed those lines on the M50 Northbound somewhere near the M1/M50 junction (I think) but couldn't notice a camera anywhere, it was just lines!

They are the ones on top of the gantries rather than where the lines the OP is talking about. There is three sets on lines on the M50 for cameras but no cameras are in place, just the lines.

    1: Before J3 M1 Northbound
    2: Before J12 Firhouse Northbound
    3: Before J6 Blanch Southbound.

I use M50 daily and I know thw lines that you are talking about. I see huge amount of cars that hit the brakes at the last minute when they see them. Could be an accident !

AFAIK they are placed in the over head gantries whether they are cameras or some other device I don't know.

They are APNR cameras, for measuring the travel time between junctions. Not used for speeding offences.

Could they be used for speed checks though? I.e. times how long it takes a car to get from one camera to the next, and if it's faster than a certain time that means the car is doing above 100km/h. Don't they have average speed checks like that in other countries?

Would make more sense than 'instantaneous' speed checks I think.

Yes, they do note your reg and speed, but the NRA wont be issuing speed fines just yet.

The next step is to display your reg on the over head signs when you are speeding to let you know but thats down the road

At the moment they are just lines. But given the idea to toll the entire M50, I wouldn't be surprised if they introduced average speed cameras. I'd welcome it on the M50, as I'm sick of being the only one going at the limit (As much as I disagree with the 100km/h restriction) Just because someone doesn't agree with something doesn't mean it should be flaunted. I've lost count of the amount of times someone hammers past at 120km/h+ or right up the arse of someone while weaving through the lanes.

Interestingly I was on a road like the M50 near Milan, Italy and it had three lanes. Two were 120km/h and one was 100km/h, used for going from junction to junction or merging. Was a great idea and I can't see why the M50 couldn't be adjusted to the same. Would keep a good motorway flow while allowing good junction / slip access.
