    Howdy lads,

    Have recently put together a D&D group and am currently looking for the best place to get cheap miniatures.

    Have the player characters so pretty much looking for assorted monsters of all shapes and sizes, can be painted or unpainted doesn't matter. Would prefer plastic obviously due to cost & durability.

    I suspect eBay might be your best bet. Didn't Wizards do a line of D&D prepainted plastic minis a while back?

    You might get some on Bartertown as well.

    A lot of wargames will do plastic minis, but they probably would look a bit off for D&D, plus the range would be rather limited.

    If you're willing to paint them, pretty much any 28mm mini will do. I don't know the D&D Mini's official size, but 28mm is close to it. If you're willing to have some humanoids look slightly bigger or smaller than others it'll do fine. And once you start talking about the monsters bigger than humans, even that concern goes away as no-one I know is pushed if the model accurately represents a 22 foot monster rather than a 23 foot monster. Basically if you're not too worried about everything being exact, you can pretty much go with any of the normal wargaming model's lines. In fact you can save a huge amount of money over the official stuff's MSRP if you go with the smaller producers' things. I'd just be wary of going with either Games Workshop or Privateer Press models, because they're noted for being expensive.

    If you're in Cork, there's Prince August who make models out by Macroom, they even have the rights from the Tolkien estate to make Lord of the Rings models. If you're not from Cork you can get their stuff from;

    http://www.mithril.ie/
    And although their website is rubbish, they've been around for yonks and will see you right.

    Otherwise do what I've been doing for the past few days. Go to http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com and read through their news. They cover all the wargames and miniatures producers. Open the link to every shop you find mentioned, and you'll be guaranteed to find something you like, and at a great price.

    Edit: And supposedly Hasbro/WotC have stopped making those plastic minis as they were faring poorly. You could probably find boxes of them on EBay from shops and wholesalers looking to offload, and could get them cheap if you buy in bulk.
