Hi hunters... I've wandered over from animal and pet issues :) Does anyone know of a hunting shop in Dublin selling scent to use on a training dummy? It's for trying some scent work with my retriever. I'm a city slicker and don't know any hunters! :pac:

Have never heard of a bottle of scent before but I'm always open to new things!!! Anyway, maybe a rabbit shooter close to Dublin might be able to give you a couple of rabbit skins and you could either turn them into a dummy or maybe make some kind of case out of the skins for your existing dummy. You might have to do the curing yourself but there are plenty of threads on how to do it. If you can't get any in Dublin area I can get some for you but I'm in Kildare/Offaly border area so it might be a bit far for you to travel but if not just pm me

Do what the pros do..........put it in your armpit for a few minutes.
All the scent you'll ever need.

You actually can buy animal Wee on D'internet for that purpose.
But the armpit sounds more attractive alternative ;)

or spit on the dummy and rub it in with your hand.

Looks like I'll be getting it online then - not from the wee site thou lol - http://www.harveydanielsonline.co.uk/ourshop/prod_962941-Scent-Liquid-for-Gundog-Training-Rabbit-Free-UK-PampP.html :pac: I want to try it in/on a dummy when we practice obedience outside or at class - at the moment he's not intersted in toys at all outside and doesn't see them as a reward. Also I like the idea of testing out his natural retriever instincts :D lol

Ive tried pheasant scent in a bottle.. just injected it into the dummies and i found some difference... a springer with no interest in retrieving(unusual i know) but did the trick so try it and see

Thats what I go for aswell the main reason for this is he will give it back to you everytime as he knows it belongs to you as pack leader.
Thats what I read and it works well for me.
