    In May:
    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0511/1224296699738.html
“In respect of the income tax position, let me be quite clear. The Government will honour its commitment in respect of there being no increase in the income tax bands.”
“We have no intention of reneging upon the commitment in respect of income tax.’’

    And again in June:
    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2011/0617/1224299071809.html
“But as head of Government, I can say this in respect of the programme for government and this is very clear: there will not be any income tax increases in the budget.”

Watch this saga very, very closely. I, as ye all know, am a firm believer in a requirement for honesty from politicians. If they renege on any of this, I say we give 'em hell. Hell.

And let's not hear any of the usual bollocks that it's not technically an increase that's being proposed. The rate isn't going up, maybe, but a reduction in bands and credits has exactly the same effect. It's an income tax increase which they think they can get away with not calling an income tax increase.

And I say all this as someone who voted FG in the election. Mary Mitchell O Connor and Sean Barrett got my 3 and 4.

Finally, for those who will attack me as someone who "won't accept the dire situation we're in" and blah blah blah, I fully accept it. And I fully accept that serious decisions have to be taken.

But I dislike being lied to. I dislike it so much, in fact, that I will not tolerate it.

    Will you?

If I promise to kill you it's not the same as killing you.

    Were you born recently?

They pretty much said it on Friday didn't they?

Not going to increase income tax, going to reduce tax credits. Not the same thing to a politician...

But FG said it would 1/3 tax increases, 2/3 spending cuts so this is what it should be for the most part and people should not be disappointed that they got what they voted for unless of course you voted for Labour.

This really shouldn't surprise anyone. Enda has already been called out on that matter with the Rosscommon A&E upon which his comments are of a very questionable nature. Politicians talk a considerable amount of s**t during election campaigns and that's before they even get into office so now we have a politician doing something that seems to be contrary to what he said when we was looking for the votes of the masses....not too surprising really :(

My argument is that whenever the sh*t talking can be proven it should be automatic bye election time to see if the people are still ok with being represented by a liar.
