OK, I got this off A.Nolan thanks to the Board here's a picture of what I currently have..

    6Mkmd.jpg

Everything is grand but after getting used to it I'm wondering if I'd be better off changing the Aimpoint for a 553 EOTech?

My only concern is what the rifle will look like after the change as the EOTech's seem quite wide and I haven't been able to track many similiar images down on the net..

Here's the few that I did find..

As you can see, the EOTech is far wider at the base of the sight and the majority of these pictures are the shorter CQB varients of AUG.

    Anybody any good with Photoshop?!

Interested in hearing thoughts, suggestions and opinions please, thanks in advance.

    This is purely aesthetics, right?

I think the wide, squared-off base of an EOTech probably wouldn't look good on the standard AUG, since it's a pretty narrow rifle. But the A3 with all the extra rails is a far chunkier affair, so it might work for you.

But really it's going to be personal preference. If you can, ask someone at a site (or even pop into a shop) if you can try their EOTech on your AUG just to get an idea of how it looks.

Personally I'd stick with the Aimpoint and spend the extra cash on something else that looks shiny!

Thanks for your reply Shidosha, partly for aeshetics but mainly for practicality.

When using the Aimpoint I have blinkered vision, I don't feel comfortable using the sight due to the time taken to aquire targets. Additionally once I've aquired a target then I'm looking in tunnel vision and I'm not aware of much else happening around me.

Although as you've already mentioned the 'wide squared-off base of an EOTech', another small concern of mine is it likely to snag or catch up on things?

This is why I'm considering going down the EOTech route, I'd love to try one before I buy one. Alas living in the wilds of Donegal I doubt this will happen!

Thanks for your input thou. it's certainly appreciated :-)

Does your Aimpoint have magification on it? I was kind of assuming it was just a red dot sight, X1 magnification.

An EOTech would be functionally very similar. If a X1 mag Aimpoint is giving you tunnel vision, I don't think an EOTech will help with the issue.

Now, if it is a X1 magnification sight you've got, you probably just need to retrain yourself in how you use it. You want to be in the position where you keep both eyes open, with the sight in place ahead of your right eye (assuming you're right handed). Set yourself up on a target as if it's a scope (so with your left eye closed) and then just open up your left eye. Refocus your vision on the target, trying to ignore the sight itself. The end result should be that you get a red dot sitting over your target, but because your vision is focused on the target well ahead of your gun, you don't really see the sight at all. You just end up with the same effect as a laser, except the other guy can't see it.

In terms of snagging on things: An EOTech shouldn't be particularly bad for it, if you're not finding it an issue with your Aimpoint you shouldn't with an EOTech. In fact, because it sits lower to the rail, it may be less likely to catch on stuff. The only thing to watch out for is if there are any controls on your gun that are anywhere near where the sight is going to sit. For example, if you find yourself pulling back on the cocking lever with any regularity, you might find that an EOTech gets in the way. Generally with airsoft guns this isn't an issue, there's rarely anything you actually need to use like that, but it's sometimes an issue with putting EOTechs on real-steel equipment, so it's probably worth mentioning just in case your AEG, or the way you use your AEG has something that might hit the same issue.

No magnification on my Aimpoint, so your assumption is correct :-)

Yeah I guess your right, retraining of the way I shoot is definately the more cost effective method.

Actually I appreciate your assistance, thanks for taking the time to reply to me :D

    SOLVED!
