Doing contract work on a part-time, ad hoc basis for a German company while in IE

    Hi,

I recently went for an interview to Germany. I ended up declining the job there as I deemed the renumeration too low.

However, I would like to propose to the company that I can do occasional ad hoc work for them from Ireland. I'm proposing nothing regular - just helping them out, if they need it, in bottleneck situations. Potential to earn perhaps €200 per month or so.

I'm just wondering what I need to do in terms of being tax compliant, etc. Would I pay tax to Ireland or Germany, or would I need to declare such small income at all?

    Thanks

If you are tax resident in Ireland you pay tax in Ireland (183 day rule). If you register for VAT you will not have to charge the germany company VAT (assuming they are also regd). (note you don't actually need to reg for VAT unless you go over e37,500)

You are supposed to declare all your income as part of self-assessment. If you don't earn much you won't pay much tax, same as with any income. Specifics depend on whether you setup as a sole-trader or a limited company. Lots of info here: www.revenue.ie
