There are three games on today in Croke Park yet only one of them is on TV. Anyone know what the reason for this is?

The GAA only sold the rights to one game. They reduced the number of games available to TV this year.

Whats the point in that though? Surely they'd want more people seeing games...

To try and increase spectator numbers actually at the games.

All well and good for people who can actually afford to go to games. Bit much travelling to Dublin, tickets and all the other costs involved. Ah well.

Whatever about today, tomorrow will be a bit of a farce imo. Bringing 3 bordering counties from the South West all the way to croker is madness. Why not have the double-header in Thurles - they have had football 1/4 final's there before - which would incur less expense on all participants and their fans, while still having a good atmosphere.

Not having games on tv won't increase the number of spectators drastically. Reduction in prices and a bit more common sense with regard to where the matches are played would be more beneficial imo.

I used to think this but in reality, if you are travelling to Dublin from Cork, Mayo, Kerry or Limerick, five euro off your ticket price is only a tiny amount. It's cynical, but the GAA is going to squeeze every penny out of travelling fans.

Its not just the tickets, in fairness €30 for today is very reasonable for three matches. Its just that combined with another €30 for a bus, food and drink etc, bit too much for a poor student:(.

Don't mind the matches being in Croke Park because it isn't fair that some players wouldn't get to play there just because they drew a nearby county( ie Limerick players).

I could have it wrong but i think the whole "croke park" thing is a bit of a marketing con by the gaa.
They are selling the idea of playing in Croke park as an achievement to teams that are very unlikely to ever win anything and fair play to them for the moment at least its working.
There was a similar suituation about 5 years ago, a hurling double Cork/Waterford and Clare/Limerick in Croker and a friend of mine (from clare) told me it would literely cost him a weeks wages to bring his wife and three children, at that time there were no cut price tickets.

Make no mistake the gaa is ametuer but as they say "money is'nt everything it's the only thing"
