This may come across a bit Broadsheet.ie, with their continuing vendetta against Irish Times typos, but my knuckles whitened this morning reading Ian O'Riordan's article on an Alpine sportive in today's Sport supplement. As an Orwell member, I nearly dropped my croissant, and resolved to not greet any fellow cyclists for two full weeks. The two Boards classics are in there: "Clip into the peddles", and "Breaking has little effect.".

I was expecting the hat trick with a signoff "I need some advise", but sadly, not this time.

Did they headline the article with "On Your Bike!"? They must use that three times a week -- and it just keeps getting funnier.

They had a very tiresome running correspondence about helmets, which had "Helmut" in the headline for a few days.

Surely the real story there is his incredibly skinny twigs arms?

55minutes up Alpe D'Huez though = massive respect. I'd guess he's something around 70kg and according to this table would need to be doing 4w/kg to hit 55mins, so fair dues if someone with that physique can sustain 280watts for an hour.
