Vans are classed as commercial vehicles and are doe'd regardless of private or commercial use. Very easy to tax it privately, just go in as normal to the tax office, did it myself the other day. Ive heard of some insurance companies not covering but had no problems getting insurance myself.

There's a thread here recently that covers all this just do a search and it'll come up
